What is a silhouette and why it is important to know your silhouette?
A silhouette in fashion terms refers to a line of dress and its overall garment. A right type of silhouette helps your body look out of the world where as a wrong silhouette can lead to a fashion disaster.
Here are a few important silhouettes that you should know:
A-line
A-line is a modern silhouette popular in women’s apparel in which the cut flares gently away from the body to resemble the shape of letter ‘A’. A-line silhouette suits all body type. It is fitted till the waist and starts flowing out from there. From wedding dresses to one pieces A-line goes well with all. Generally, A-line dresses comes with an empire line at the waist.
Straight
A straight fit silhouette is also called as a rectangular silhouette. It has generally same measurements from top to the hem giving it a more rectangular look. This kind of silhouette is most suitable for thin people to make them look healthier.
Sheath
This type of silhouette is said to be body hugging silhouette. This silhouette sticks to the body well and it generally has a slit at the hem to let the skin breath. This silhouettes are more preferable for people with a defined waist or an average figure type. As it tones the body well.
Trapeze
This silhouette is also called as triangular silhouette. It is similar to that of an A-line silhouette but with more flare. Most of the dresses of this silhouettes are short dresses. It gives a very casual vibe. This type of silhouette is more preferable for thin people as it gives fullness to the body.
Circular
A-line having limited flare whereas circular silhouettes have more or we can say most flares compared to the rest. This silhouette is more preferable for weddings outfits to give it a heavier look.
Trumpet
This silhouette is a combination of sheath and circular, A-line, Trapeze silhouette. It is fitted till the knees and from knees it starts flaring out. This silhouette is also called as mermaid dress. It is usually more preferable for wedding also ball gowns. When it comes to comfort it is not much comfortable as the sheath make it difficult to walk but the plus point is it looks great after wearing.
