Decluttering your kid’s wardrobe is an often overlooked area. Many moms automatically think: what do I do about storing outgrown clothes for the next child or keeping items of clothing for sentimental purposes? Both are valid concerns. But striking a balance between the two is very important if you don’t want your child’s closet overflowing with clothes.
A lot of questions come to your minds as mothers- What does my kid really wear and need on a regular basis? What’s truly serving a purpose in their wardrobe and what’s just filling space, making you feel safe?
Understand what your child likes to wear
As a mother and as a parent, it’s important to understand what pattern, colour or type of clothes your baby boy likes to wear. No matter how much you want to buy the cute outfits, allow yourself to understand that your kid will make a fuss about wearing it. That way you’ll make space for other necessary things.
Choose the ones not to keep
Be conscious of how many clothes your child really needs. As a rule we wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. Get to the closet and bifurcate the clothes your child hasn’t worn since a long time. Pick those outfits, pack them in boxes and set them aside for some good work like donating to an orphanage or distributing them to the poor and needy.
Sort the clothing limit
Set a limit to buy your kids’ clothes. Avoid buying in bulk during sale periods as it will only serve the sale purpose and not the actual purpose of utilising those clothes for your kiddo later.
Create a capsule wardrobe
Remember your kid is growing. He will outgrow his clothes very quickly. The key is to buy clothes that can be used for the coming 6 months to1 year. Do not hoard clothes for your kids in the present for when he will older in the future.
On the same note, it’s important to have entire sets of outfit with can be mixed and matched. As and when either of top or bottom gets dirty, you can change just one and not the whole outfit.
Some of the quick benefits for mom’s as are follows:
Less Laundry effort
No unworn clothes
No wastage of money
More storage space
Remember the aim of the game is to stress less, enjoy life more, and spend quality with your kids, not just clean up after them!
